About the "Keepers of the Cycle"
About a hundreds of years before Salvarex was born, his ancestors pledged an oath of devotion to the Prime God of Death. Although they haven't had any direct interactions with this god, the strength of their connection was undeniable. They devoted their life to this god in hopes of getting greated with a warm embrace to the afterlife. Naming themselves "Keepers of the Cycle", they were tasked with easing the transition between the realm of the living and the land of the dead. Whether it is through religious ceremonies for the deceased (intended to make a soul's voyage to the afterlife easier), or by hunting down those that are attempting to interfere with the Cycle, the Keepers had the intention of making death look like a kind fate. When Salvarex was born, the connection had already gotten far weaker. The devotion has faded and the Keepers of the Cycles lost the social status they once had. The people are now more fearful of death than ever before.
About Feeling the Connection Getting Weaker
For the past couple of years, Salvarex has been feeling his connection with the god of Death weakening. Although it was barely noticeable at the beginning, it has become excessively obvious in the past 10 years. It is clear that the Prime God has no intention of assisting Salvarex and his companions any further. Although it is difficult for him to come to terms with it, Salvarex feels as though he has been abandonned. This has been undeniably affecting his ability to channel his divine power.
About the People
Although the "Keepers of the Cycle" aren't as presitigious as in the past, Salvarex and his small group of warriors are still treated with respect and are seen as tremendous fighters. People have put their fate in the Keepers to protect them in time of needs, much like the other Defenders of the People. However, the religious influence they once had hundreds of years ago is long gone. Compared to the soldiers led by the Oath of the Crown Paladin and Battlemaster, the "Keepers of the Cycle" is a small group holding onto to the nearly extinct religious significance they once had. Those remaining devoted to the God of Death have mostly done so out of tradition, Salvarex being no exception. The "Keepers" numbers have been shrinking steadily over the years. Death has been common in the past hundreds of year and the Keepers have always been there to soften the blow. But now that their influence is fading, death is becoming scarier than even. Every death now weighs heavily on the conscience of the People.
